Project Overview
Miller Ridge Apartments Deep Energy Retrofit
A significant Deep Energy Retrofit program is underway at Miller Ridge Apartments, a 122-unit complex acquired by HomeEd in 2023. This ambitious initiative aims to drastically reduce energy consumption by an impressive 70% and Greenhouse Gas Emissions by 80%.
This environmentally friendly project is made possible through support from the Canada Greener Affordable Housing Program, delivered by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC). Work is already underway and targeting completion in early 2026.

RETROFIT SCOPE
Comprehensive Building Transformation
The building envelope redesign, conceptualized by L7 Architecture, is a cornerstone of this project, promising substantial long-term benefits in energy efficiency and resident comfort.
As a non-profit housing provider, we know that sustainable building practices and renewable energy are vital for truly affordable housing. By integrating features like enhanced insulation and solar panels, we are making homes more affordable for the long term. These energy-smart choices create healthier living spaces and a smaller environmental footprint, building stronger, more sustainable communities for Edmontonians.
While the Deep Energy Retrofit marks a major step, HomeEd has already begun sustainable building enhancements at Miller Ridge since its acquisition. To date, these have included plumbing updates and other improvements, laying the groundwork for this larger transformation.
Heat Recovery Ventilator (HRV) Upgrades
Modern HRV systems improve indoor air quality while recovering heat that would otherwise be lost, reducing energy consumption.
Enhanced Attic Insulation
Upgraded insulation dramatically reduces heat loss in winter and heat gain in summer, improving comfort year-round.
Doors & Windows Upgrade
High-performance windows and doors reduce drafts and improve thermal performance throughout the building.
Modern Boiler Upgrades
High-efficiency boiler systems replace aging equipment, significantly reducing energy use for heating.
Solar Array Installation
On-site renewable energy generation offsets electricity consumption and reduces the building's carbon footprint.
Upgraded Building Envelope
A comprehensive redesign of the building's exterior shell, creating a more energy-efficient and durable structure.
